KAIST recently launched a policy forum called Dinner and 4.0 to promote discussions among public officials (Sejong Government Complex, Daejeon Government Complex, Small and Medium Business Administration, Daejeon Metropolitan City), researchers of Daedeok Innopolis, and members of KAIST, including President Sung-Chul Shin. The first session was held on May 11 at the Institute for Startups at KAIST. Upcoming sessions will take place on the first Thursday of each month until April 2018.

The Dinner and 4.0 Forum was launched to support efforts to establish national policies, and to promote cooperation with related institutes, through discussions and debates on technology, policies and systems in preparation for the emerging 4th industrial revolution. Each session begins with a 30-minute presentation by KAIST faculty on key technologies of the 4th industrial revolution in various fields, including physics, digital technology, and biology, followed by active discussions with participants.

The first session was led by President Sung-Chul Shin under the theme “KAIST’s Innovation for the 4th Industrial Revolution”. The upcoming monthly sessions in 2017 include “The Core of the 4th Industrial Revolution: Machine Intelligence and Deep Learning” by Professor Jong-Hwan Kim, “Robot Technology and the Future” by Professor Junho Oh, “The 4th Industrial Revolution and Unmanned Vehicle Technology” by Professor Hyunchul Shim, “Complex Networks and Data Science” by Professor Hawoong Jeong, “The 4th Industrial Revolution and Information Security: Technology, Policies, and Fostering of Talents” by Professor Yongdae Kim, “The Role of Biotechnology in the Age of the 4th Industrial Revolution” by Professor Sang Yup Lee, and “AI-based Fake News Detection in the Age of the 4th Industrial Revolution” by Professor Meeyoung Cha.

At the Dinner and 4.0 meetings with public officials and researchers, KAIST hopes to prepare a broad and cooperative foundation for the age of the coming 4th industrial revolution. The forum is open to all public officials and researchers of the Sejong Government Complex, Daejeon Government Complex, Daejeon Metropolitan City, Daedeok Innopolis, and related organizations. The session fee is KRW 20,000 won.
