Lanthanum-catalysed synthesis of microporous 3D graphene-like carbons in a zeolite template

Summary:
We demonstrated that lanthanum ions embedded in zeolite pores can lower the temperature for carbonization of ethylene or acetylene. Based on this finding, we selectively formed a graphene-like carbon structure inside zeolite template without undesirable carbon deposition at zeolite external surfaces. After removal of the zeolite, consequently, we could synthesize three-dimensionally microporous graphene-like carbon that exhibited significantly high electrical conductivity. Such a synthesis can be readily scaled up, which will open up the various application researches of this fascinating carbon material.
