The KAIST Language Center, a professional language institute affiliated with the KAIST College of Liberal Arts and Convergence Science, offers Korean, English and other foreign language classes not only for students, faculty and staff at KAIST, but also for local community members and those who work for administrative organizations and research institutes. In addition to language courses, it provides a wide variety of services such as translation and interpreting, proofreading and English proficiency examinations.

The language courses, available for learners of varied proficiency levels, include English Conversation, Technical Presentation Skills, Business English Writing, preparation for English proficiency exams (TOEFL, TOEIC, TEPS), Interpreting and Technical Communication, Korean Conversation and TOPIK.

The English proofreading service covers all types of documents written in English, such as academic publications in international journals, administrative documents and SOPs for overseas universities. Highly experienced proofreaders review the documents for mistakes in grammar, spelling and word choice. The premium proofreading service checks also for flow, coherence (sentence structure) and formatting to fulfill journal requirements.

The Korean<->foreign language translation service is available for various languages including English, Japanese, Chinese, German and French. To ensure quality translation, the source text is translated by a bilingual translator and proofread by a native speaker of the target language.

The interpretation service builds on the KAIST Language Center’s expertise and infrastructure in language education, proofreading and translation. The clients range from research institutes to government agencies, and the types of interpretation include simultaneous interpretation, consecutive interpretation and whispered interpretation.

The KAIST Language Center is an ETS-certified test administration site for English proficiency exams such as iBT GRE and iBT TOEFL. These tests are administered three to four times a month (on weekends) at an on-campus location.
